What is the Fascination with Beaded Jewelry?
There seems to be a renewal in the interest of beaded jewelry these days. Once upon a time, this type jewelry was considered the basic of all well dressed female wardrobes. However, times change and other forms of adornment overtook beaded items. So why is jewelry with beads coming back so strong today? Here are some ideas on why beads are back.
First, beads are fun. They can be just about any color or shape. Beads can be worn in short strands or in long ones. You may find them wound into a braided pattern, with contrasting colors forming a colorful rope design. You can take beads and put them together for a brooch, shoulder pin or a pair of earrings. They can be very traditional or completely off the wall. Beads can be a fun part of a an outfit for a costume party, such as a Twenties flapper. There is not much you can’t do with beads, when it comes to jewelry designs.
Next, they are appropriate for just about any occasion. One can wear beads for a trip to the grocery store, an afternoon at the park, picking up the kids from soccer practice, or wear them to a formal dinner. No matter that the event happens to be, beaded jewelry is usually a very safe bet if you want to dress up your outfit a little.
Third, they make a great gift. Just about every woman wants to have at least a few pieces of jewelry that contains beads of some sort. From something simple like a nice sedate set of pearls to long ropes of beads that can be twisted, looped or tied, beads are a nice way to let a woman know you are thinking of her, either as a friend or as something more romantic.
There is no rule that says the beads have to be strung in advance. Quite a few people delight in stringing their own, coming up with designs that are completely unique and one of a kind. Kits that include everything one needs to string a customized set of beads can be found in hobby shops and other fine stores.
From the formal pearls of days gone by all the way through the love beads of the Sixties to the innovative uses of beads today for just about every type of accessory you can imagine, beaded jewelry has managed to maintain at least a small part of the public consciousness. Chances are most of us will always have at least one or two beaded items in the jewelry box, just in case.
